Where is the "Hood Ajar" switch that throws up a message on the dash?

Asked by Will Apr 16, 2015 at 06:42 PM about the 2005 Ford Escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently rear-ended another vehicle lightly and in doing so pushed the front bumper
about an inch so that the hood won't latch all the way and that throws up a message on
the dash "Hood Ajar" which I can't move past to see the miles remaining or any other
system messages. Is there a way to disable the switch for the time being? I have the hood
secured just in case someone is wondering that.

There should be a rubber covered switch of some kind right along the front support near the radiator. Push on any thing you can find until you feel a button depress. Then just wad up a ball of duct tape or something and stick it on the button. When you close the hood, it should apply enough pressure to keep the button depressed.
