I have an 2005 ford escape and its not going over 40 it cut off on me yesterday and when it started it was putting the cut off again please help

It sounds like it may have went into limp mode. Is the check engine light/wrench on?

Certain problems on ford will cause it to go into limp mode to keep from doing damage to the vehicle. See if you can limp it to advance or autozone and they will read the codes for free. Post the codes and we will try to help you fix it.
