Starts then I can run into town shut it off and

This one is hard to say, so many possibilities. Could be electrical, or it could be a fuel issue. You could start by having the vehicle scanned for any trouble codes, this would give you an idea where to look for the problem. Otherwise I would suggest taking it into a shop for proper diagnosis and repair.
