97 chevy silverado c/k 1500 v6

Okay curious to know if when towing an automatic
transmission 97 Chevy Silverado CK 1500 v6 if I still need to
remove the drive shaft when flat towing or is that just a
manual transmission thing and if not can someone please
explain how are what happens as far as the transmission is
concerned and how it might damage it?
