What would cause my 2000 Chevy Malibu to die going down the highway and not start back up?

It has charge on battery and newly
rebuilt starter and alternator. It
cranks to fast when trying to start.

If the engine cranks fast, you may have lost compression in one or more cylinders. Did you lose a spark plug?
