do the day time running lights still work? if not i would look into the multi function switch in the steering column (where the turn signals wipers and cruise control) are first check fuses and relays, if them are good check the headlight switch it self those were made a little cheap and are known to fail but are a simple fix hope this is a help for you

I am having the exact same problem with my 2000 chevy astro, I went to an electrical shop and they said it was my multifunction switch... they want $600 to fix it though

If you can bypass the switch and the lights work, it just may be the switch. Is the $600.00 mostly labor? If your not too mechanically inclined to do the work yourself, shop around for a better price to fix it. I hate people that "use the book on repair costs" to quote prices for fixing things. I had a turn signal on my Buick Terraza go out. I was given a "labor intensive" quote of $175.00 at the dealer to fix. $1.75 for a bulb, remove one clamp, one bolt and replace the bulb in 4 minutes. Saved $173.25.
