88 cutlass supreme my brakes went soft and I can't shift out of park

Asked by chansen14 Dec 07, 2012 at 02:09 PM about the 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It worked fine then I parked it, ran inside for about 15 minutes, when I came back out it started fine, but the brakes were really soft and seemed like they weren't catching anything. In turn I couldn't shift out of park because the brakes weren't working.  any ideas?? help!

Try bleeding your brakes at he wheels first. If that don't do it bleed the master cylinder. If Rhodes options don't work your master cylinder and or brake booster could need replacing

Those things would definitely cause mushy brakes but the issue of not coming out of park most likely lies in the brake switch. Do your brake lights come on?
