I have an 84 oldsmobile cutlass supreme. Car cranks turns over if I put gas down carb. Won't stay on

This is a classic. In addition to the above I would take a close look at the carbeuretor as being the cause, if the veh. has been sitting awhile.There are many internal carb parts that could be causing this too. The accelerator pump in the carb is a common problem.The rubber on them dry out and won't pump fuel. The floats inside the carb also become saturated and gum up, causing the needle and seat to stick and not allow fuel into the bowl and then through the jets. I have been rebuilding auto and motorcycle carbs for 30 years and see this regularly.
