I have a 1984 Culass Supreme, and my gas gage reads unconsistantly, what is the problem????

I have a 1984 Culass Supreme, and my gas gage reads unconsistantly. I repaced the sending unit and the problem still continues. If i put $30 dollars worth of gasin it,the gage will read coorect then 30 sec later it will read empty. What is the problem????

You probiby have a hole in the floater that tells the gauge how much fuel is in the tank it fills nad sinks to the bottom once filled. You should take the offf and check it out!!

My 84 cutlass did the same thing and the problem ended up being the ground wire from the sending unit not being grounded properly.
