I understand the chevy 3.1 has problems with blown head gaskets

Hi Regina, there were no official recalls from Chevrolet regarding the Malibus head gaskets. I also scanned user reviews and forums to hear of any major complaints and didn't really find any regarding the head gaskets on your car.

just replaced head gaskets on my 98 Malibu with a 3.1L. not any real problems with head gaskets on these but the intake gaskets are a problem. they are likely to leak on lower intake, just a flaw in the design from what I am told.
