what dose the amp light mean on a 1986 crown vic ltd

That amp light is the battery light in other cars. It just illuminates when the car reads less than sufficient current coming out of the alternator. Might be a defect in the alternator or alternator system, or it might just be dirty/corroded battery cable connections or a bad cable. Check it.
