1968 MERCURY COUGAR

Asked by Diamondlil56 May 15, 2019 at 04:03 PM about the 1968 Mercury Cougar

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need to know if my 1968 Mercury Cougar has a heat shield that protects my starter from getting too hot. I am not sure if there is one currently on the car and it tends to overheat even though I have changed the starter. It makes a winding noise when you start it again and a winding noise also. Does this year come with a heat shield for the starter?

I don't think my 67 had a heat shield. You could make one or use header wrap on the exhaust.
