does a 72 eldorado with a 500ci engine require leaded gas

You never need to run leaded gas but it helps with the lubricity. You can always put additives into the gas for that and since its a 72 there is a good chance that it originally called for leaded gas.

beginning in 1971 General motors implemented the use of hardened exhaust vavle seats in smallblock truck motors . by 1972 ALL GM engines were equipped with hardened exhaust valve seats for low lead fuel . I doubt very much however that your 500 eldo motor will like anything but premium , I know my 74 New Yorker's 440 HP motor sure does ... PBN
