Ticking noise from engine.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For some time now my car has had a ticking sound coming from the engine. I've done some research over this and from what I've found they say it's probably the cam that's worn down or something with the valves and/or rockers. I've done the oil changes regularly using synthetic oil, and check the oil levels to make sure it's got plenty oil. If I can I'll post a link to a video I'll make later. Engine is a 3800 Series II

have you tach it up tach it up, buddy's gonna shut you down? and revved this up to 5 or 8 thousand RPM unloaded? this most assuredly will bend connecting rods, play hell with your lifters and cause obnoxious engine damage. This is the source of your ticking. Revvin it up unloaded. Nothing we can do now.

How good is your oil pressure? If you raise the rpm's a little and it goes away you got low oil pressure. If it doesn't you may have a round cam lobe or two, a stud that let go, leaking down lifter, bent push tube or a tube wore into or thru a rocker. If you pull rocker cover and run engine while going rocker to rocker with a broom handle or such and resist against push tube side, you can isolate the noisy one(s). Or may be able to see the problem right off the bat. A compsession test may steer you to a particular cylinder as well.
