I hired in 9-11-62 on the buick assembly line in Flint , Mi. For 2 years I worked on the line installing the shift linkage to the floor pan in the riviera and wildcat. Some had a wooden shift knob while others had a black plastic. was this wood a special option?

Yes, it was part of the "Custom" trim option.
