Is it ok to drive when the air bag light is on permanently?

It means there is a problem in the system and they will not deploy if you are in an accident. I t is ok to drive but you need to get it checked if you want them to work.
Sure. Cars in the 50's had no airbag and people lived *sometimes*
My wife airbag light in her 2007 Legacy is on most of the time. The dealer said it is a sensor in the seat. Not sure how well the airbag will work but I haven't felt the need to pay to fix.
None of the airbags will deploy in an accident if the light is on. Do not attempt to work on this yourself. There is always a chance of it deploying if not repaired by a certified technician.
It can be a number of things, definately get the scan done. I have a car that has the same light on because the seat belt tensioner says it was over tensioned, you never know what could cause it till you actually look into it. As to whether it's safe to drive or not that is up to your personal oppinion as to whether you think air bags are nessiscary or not. Personally (not to start a debate) I have been in 3 major wrecks (stupid kid phase) and in all 3 none of the vehicles I drove had air bags and one was a role over accident at 45 in a Jeep (totaled) and another was a wreck doing 95 in a Toyota MR2 never got even a bruise from any, worst I got was a cigarette burn on my shoulder. So personally I don't pay atention to the little orange light.
its not a big deal if the light is on, because it may be a fualt code, but i had an airbag light on all the time and the airbags deployed in my accident, which was pretty bad.
I have a 2018 Forester and not only does the SRS Airbag Light come on but with my wife in the front passenger seat, the Passenger Airbag OFF light comes on. Disturbing. I’ve read on several other sites that the cause is the sensor under the passenger seat cushion. I’ll get mine checked out this week, should be covered by the warranty.
Arrived at dealership and the SRS Airbag light wasn’t on so they can’t read a code. They said in order to get SOA to release a part they must be able to clear the code, shutoff and restart the car and the fault comes back. Then SOA will send a part. My fault is intermittent, there now but reset next time I start the car. I called SOA and they issued me a service request number and they called the dealership. Then called me back and said if I start the car and the fault light comes on to email my SOA point of contact and go directly to the dealership. SOA will call the dealership to tell them I’m on the way, no appointment needed, and they will read the code right then to find out what’s causing the problem. So, this is a step forward because it takes a week to get in for service.
