6 or 8 ???

Asked by fretdoc May 24, 2011 at 09:32 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet SSR

Question type: General

A friend recently purchased an 03 SSR and it had a six cylinder engine. I have an 06 and thought all years came with a V8. Whats the scoop?

All SSRs came with V-8. 03/04 had a warmed up 5.3 liter V-8 and the 05/06 had the LS2 V-8 (6.0 liter). That's not saying that someone could have foolishly swapped a 6 for the V-8. It COULD happen, but why?

Check the VIN. The eighth digit will tell what engine it has. I have a 2004 SSR with a 2003 VIN. my 8th digit is "P" should be a "S". Go to SSRfanatics or the Facebook page. There are experts on there. Engine compartment should look like this with LS-1 V8
