Well, very bad news. My husband was headed to the auto parts store to have them verify codes, and if need be get spark plugs, wires. On the way, it made a loud noise like a thunk, white smoke poured out, coasted to a stop in a parking lot and oil was pouring out all over ground. We just had it towed home. Since home, it was driven a total of 86 miles in 4 days, 3 trips. I will have to make calls tomorrow since this is Sunday. What are your thoughts? Thx zxg2c

Sounds like a thrown rod if it was engine oil on the ground.

I didn't even have to read the story- as soon as I saw "2001 Land Rover" and "well, very bad news" I KNEW it was very bad news indeed! Happy Halloween!

Land Rovers can be nothing but trouble. Sounds like it needs a replacement engine.
