whine noise - when I step on gas battery light comes on

The whining sound from an alternator is a sign the bearings are failing and in this case the diodes are going. And the battery light is saying it's not recharging enough to keep up with the load...burnt diodes. Test/replace your alternator at the parts store and things should be okay. Have them test the battery just in case there is an internal short overloading the alternator.
