What does esc means?

I have an 2008 Malibu , when I start up my car it
says esc what that mean ? What do I need ?

Electronic Stability Control. Have it scanned for trouble codes at a local auto parts store. This is usually a free service. Post the codes here and maybe someone will have an answer.
