my 2004 impala just started dragging and tryin to stop we got to the Auto Zone they said battery was bad so we got new one they also said alterner was bad could any of this harm the transmission because when we drove it home it would not change gears

If your electrical system got below 10.8 - 11 volts your computer (ECM) will not be able to function properly you CAN cause damage to electrical components. I would guess however that you should be able to "relearn" the car. First I would go back to that Auto Zone and have them hook up engine monitor (they do it for free) look to see if you have any error codes. If not get yourself one of those cigarette lighter plug in voltage monitors. You should have between 13.8 - 14.4 volts with car running and minimum of 12.5 not running. Once you have a good system voltage your car should go through a process of relearning. This will take a couple cycles of starting, running and cooling down again. Your transmission should not have been harmed from this FYI.
