Hummer SUT tailgate handle

I purchased a Crome handle for my Hummer SUT.It appears the old black handle assembly is bolted from the inside of the tailgate.Is the only way to take that off is to remove the inner black skin of the tail gate just to unbolt the handle?

yes, but watch out for the "pin" (goes from the handle to the latch). Make sure you re-install it the same way, putting it on wrong means you will not be able to open the door once you close it, then it is going to cost more. Hope this helps, best of luck.
