Send me the VIN @ brian@karrera.net and I can tell you what it is and what options it has.

Are you talking about a turbo 944 or a normally aspirated? In '89 all turbos were "S" spec. There was no NA "S" in '89. There was a 2.7l 8 valve and a 3.0l 16 valve S2. The S2 will be badged as such. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_944#944_S

My 1988 944S has power sunroof, dual airbags, mag wheels, leather seats, 16 valves, cassette player and the paint looks new at 40,000 miles. I put about 1000 miles on it each year to keep it operating properly. Never raced or abused. Never driven in the snow, no rust. happidaze@alldial.net.

My 1984 944 has manual targa top, no airbags, no power steering, manual windows, standard 'cookie cutter' wheels, tatty fabric seats, 8 valves, cassette player and the paint looks shit at god-knows-how-many miles (the counter doesn't work). I drive the pants off it, I take it to track days, I've driven it in the snow, it has a couple of spots of rust... But I bet I have many more Happi Daze in mine than you do in yours...

Sometimes the 944s2 shows up as an S for some reason, i know mine did. Look between the front wheel and the door and see if it says 16 ventiller. If so that means 16 valve and is either and s2 or an s. I know the s2 has that badge, dunno about the s though. Other way is too look in the engine bay and see how wide the valve cover is. If the cam gear is in the center of the cover, it is single valve and not an S or S2. If it is to the passenger side off center it is a dual cam and either an S or an S2. Hope that helps you out some. Under the carpet in the hatch where the spare tire is is also an options code, if you give us the engine code we can tell you which it is.
