adding HP

Asked by chrisfulks Feb 08, 2009 at 07:16 PM about the 1984 Porsche 944

Question type: Car Customization

I have an 84 944 and want to add HP. I was thinking about putting a performance chip or supercharger in it. I'd like to take it from the standard 175hp to about 250hp. Does anybody have experience adding hp to this mode.?

My 1985/2 944 stock was a mere 150 hp, It was ok for a while but then I got hungry for more horse power! I ended up getting a computer chip off ebay, head work and a hotter cam and it sticks with my friends 951 all day

I find it hard to believe that a 944 NA will hang with a 951 without boost. Not unless there is something wrong with the 951. I myself have one and the way the car pulls... You'd need a lot more than a cam, head and bolt-ons. Go join Rennlist and talk to them. They'll be able to help you out with your quest on power. Of course, most will tell you to just get a turbo model.

i had that same problem with my 87 NA 944. The NA 944's are massively under powered. I currently have my 944 with 300+ hp and still naturally aspirated that i accomplished with 1 modification. an LS1 motor swap lol. I honestly could see you spending more trying to beef up that crappy 2.5 than just swapping in a turbo version of it.
