2005 Chevy Malibu wouldn't shut off

I turned the key off, removed it from the ignition
and the engine remainef on.  Many attempts
resulted in the same.  Removal of the - battery
cable did not kill the engine.  We removed the fuel
pump fuse which stopped the engine.  HOWEVER,  
when we put the fuse back in the car wouldnt start.  
Triple AAA came said he believes its the rod from
the shifter thats broke.  What is this part called and
about how much would it cost?

Could be ignition where u put key into or the ignition switch it connects to, which is under the dash on top of the steering column. Remember batteries only start cars and run things when car is off. Once car is started the alternator kicks in and battery is no longer needed. Disconnecting the battery therefore usually will not turn it off. Now the switch will not let you turn it back on. That's my best guess at this point. Wish u da best! Let us know wat it was!
