Why won’t my key fob work to open my car

The lock works fine but I have to press open repeatedly. Even with new
battery.

Fobs do go bad and the buttons can get gunked up. You might be able to take it apart and clean it up. I did with one of mine recently and now it works like new even though it is 17 years old.
