Why aren't my middle air vents aren't blowing any air? Mode Door?

Ever since I got my car a year ago, the two air vents in the middle haven't been blowing
out any air. I can hear the air blowing, and both of the outer ones work. I still get both
air and heat blowing out of the outer two, and can feel slight warm/cool air in the
middle, but they don't blow.  Took it to a mechanic last week and they charged me $40
diganostic fee to say it's something with the "mode door" and it would cost $650 to
repair. Is there any cheaper way of fixing this problem, even if I have to do it on my
own?

JS0816 If the mode motor was replaced and it still inst working what could it be? I am being told something is seized before the mode motor and I don't know the name of it!
