do i need to do the fuel pressure relief on a 2005 chevy astro van when changing the fuel filter?i have the haynes book and it only says i do on some models.wondering if i do?

When I changed the filter on my car, I let it sit overnight. I cracked the nut on the threaded end and draped a rag over it. Slowly unscrew and have a small can to catch the run off and to drop the old filter into.

Pull the fuel pump relay, then start the van. It will start then die almost immediately then crank it for 3 seconds give the starter 3 seconds rest then crank for another 3. Fuel system will be pretty much pressure free and very little mess. Obviously there will still be fuel in the lines but it will no longer be under pressure. Letting the car sit over night will only help if you have an issue somewhere, in a perfect scenario the fuel system should hold pressure forever.
