my car won't start I thought it ran out of gas

I have a 2006 Chevy MalibuI thought it ran
out of gas because the gas gauge does not
work and I put gas in it and it won't start I
checked the filter and put starting fluid to
see if it would start and it won't and my
battery is new and it drains my battery what
else could I do

Chevy had recall for gas gauge problem. Actually had several recalls all fixed by Chevy free of charge
