i have a 1980 firebird with a 403 big block.. but when the car is in drive and stopped at a light or stop sign it dies out.. what can i do to fix it?

Might check out your timing to see if you need to advance it some.. is it dying rough or seem to just idle down and shut off? I don't remember if those years had the vacuum advance with weights and all that. A new distrubuter from jegs or summit is like $200, prob livin it up a bit. I dn't remember the year of my brothers but below it should be attached. :o)
