Knocking under pedals?

Asked by Melissa Nov 24, 2014 at 12:23 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Thanks so much for even opening this!
Ok so it was raining tonight, and I went in a
few puddles, and everything was fine, but a
few minutes later, this weird noise started
coming from under my feet. It stops when I
applythe brakes/accelerate, which is odd
from what I can tell from others' posts.
I know NOTHING about cars except how to
wash them, pump gas, and fill the fluids, so
any help/expertise is highly valued and
appreciated. Thanks in advance!

First off did you do the recalls on it? I believe the electric steering rack is one of the recalls. It could be a few different things creating the noise. Bad ball joint, loose tie rod end, loose steering rack, loose motor/transmission mount(s), loose exhaust hanger ect. Have it looked at by a REPUTABLE mechanic.

Do you notice the shaking when you are just stopping, or turning? Going over small bumps like when a parking lot meets up to the road.

I didn't notice a whole lot, really. The shaking was very minor, but it freaked me out enough that I didn't focus on when it was worse. Sheesh I'm sorry. Do you think it's ok to drive for like two days?

Don't be sorry. There's no need to be. I can't tell you if it's safe or not. I'm not looking at or driving it to see what's wrong. It could be as simple as warped brake rotors. For your and the the people around you as you drive safety, I would get it looked at by a REPUTABLE mechanic ASAP.
