As stated above the noise seems to come from the front end. I have front
discs and rear drums. The car has just under 70,000 km and I have never had
any brake work done. When I bought it, it had about 55,000 km on it.

Agree. Sounds like you need front pads. If you get on it right away that's probably all you need. Leave it much longer though and you'll need rotors too.
