Diagnosis of rear brake problem on 83 Westy

Getting the brakes on this vehicle working properly has been a bad dream. The master cylinder, brake booster, front and rear pads, rear shoes, wheel cylinders and drums, and the flexible lines have all been replaced. Going forward no problem, backing up and braking no problem but...after backing up and then going forward the first pedal push gets nothing. After double pumping everything seems to work well again till backing up and then it starts again. Ideas very welcomed.

I think it might be the automatic adjustment mechanism. If I remember right the brakes are supposed to adjust when you hit the brakes while going backward so your problem could be in that. Its just a thought. I have only worked on Transporter brakes once and it was front calipers on a T2 so Im not sure its your problem but it may be worth checking.

start with manually adj rear drums brakes , if this does not work then , there is a chk valve ih the rear line where the meet in the rear ck that
