A 1973 Beetle with a flat windshield is a standard Beetle, not a Super. 1971 and 1972 Super Beetles had flat windshields and are distinguished by the MacPherson strut front suspension instead of the torsion bart suspension of the standard model.

My Bug is a 1973, spare tire lays flat, and has the MacPherson strut suspension, AND a flat windshield. trying to figure out why it's not a curved windshield.

title says 1973 previous owner says 1973 one website I typed in vin # said 1973 thus my question why is the windshield flat?

Late to the convo here, but the '73 Super did have the possibility of a flat windshield. I have a VIN breakdown confirmation direct from VW in Germany about my 1973 Super Beetle with a flat windshield. Just because the standard says one thing does not mean it never happened, Manufacturers are able to use up leftover parts on any subsequent model year they choose. So long as they are interchangeable.
