I have a 1970 beetle that appears to have the same type of air filtering system as my 1949 GMC Truck. That is you fill the air filter housing with opil which in turns filters the air before entering the carburator. Is that the case?

Yes Helmuth that's how the air filter system works on the 1970 Beetle. I can't speak to the system on your 1949 GMC however. Just remember to change the oil in your air filter every 3,000 miles! Good luck!
