Hope someone can suggest generic speeds
to shift a three on the tree car.

I shift by ear. With experience you should learn where to shift. Like Ed says a tachometer would help. Shift up at 2,500 rpm if you are taking it easy but maybe 4,000 rpm when merging on the freeway.
