First things first, do you have the 4 prong ballast resistor? If you have the 4 prong one side is the crank resistor and the other is run resistor. Check voltage at the + side of the coil with key on it should be around 9 volts give or take, if no voltage check it at the resistor, if voltage is there then you have a wiring problem. What do you mean by jumper wire? Are you jumpering the fuse?

Yes a bad ignition switch can cause it also, a voltage check before the resistor will tell you that, it should be battery voltage. Is this points and condenser unit or solid state ignition. If solid state I have seen the module cause the same trouble starting.
