The 1969 Charger series introduced the availability of the Slant-6 engine, not a popular pick for the Charger in the muscle-heavy 1960s. This was new for '69 and not available in 1968 models to my knowledge.

In 68 it was offered as an optional engine. In 69 the 225 ci was standard for the base charger together with the 318 ci V-8. 462 chargers were powered with the slant six.
