I'm looking at buying a good friend of mine's 2006 Merc C230 Coupe V6 with only 73 000kms on - absolutely mint condition!

Asked by Maverick1973 Sep 22, 2013 at 02:24 PM about the 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1) Any common problems with these V6 motors?
2) Any major "planned expences" like cam belts that would need to be budgeted for?
3) Maintenance costs like services, brake pads?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thnx

just make sure brake fluid has been flushed and transmission fluid and filter changed per Mercedes recommended intervals. These are the two most neglected - yet very important items.

are you sure thats a V6. C230 coupes in North America used and I-4 engine (271 engine to be specific). Only issues we had with those were some problems with exhaust valves on early engines (around 2003) and PVC hoses were replaced also. V-6 engines from that era had problems with balance shaft sprockets. That was an expensive repair.

Thnx guys. Yes Definitely a V6. I'm based in South Africa. They started selling those in 2006 until 2008/9 (I think...) I like the V6 sound, sporty looks and nice finishes. Just dont want to buy a car thats prone to problems, costly to repair and I'm then stuck with it... Was hoping to have read replies like: "Great car! Very reliable - No problems - Great motors!" But i havent...and that puts me off quite a bit... Thnx anyways guys!

Tom is right - if you can locate a good mechanic that you trust - it is much cheaper than the MB dealer. But in the end, when your are cruising down the highway enjoying theses great cars - the last thing you are thinking about is repairs. Put it in gear, hit the open road, and have fun.
