Engine randomly races while stopped

My car has randomly starting racing when at a complete stop.  The rpms ramp up to 2=3k and the temperature gauge goes into the red zone.  To stop it, I push hard on the brake.  Does anyone know what's going on?

NEED TO REPLACE YOUR IDLE VALVE AND THERMOSTAT.... EASY TO REPLACE AND CHEAP
