short grinding sound

Asked by kayjay Jan 31, 2010 at 10:06 AM about the 2002 Volvo S80

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am hearing a short grinding noise when my s80 is accelerating after being parked for a while.  THis is the only time I hear the noise.  What might this be.  've had the car for less than 3 wks -- it has about 83K miles

If the noise is heard once the car reaches 30 km/h (Sorry, I'm Swedish...), it's the ABS self test procedure you are hearing. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
