My 2000 bug acts like not getting gas sputters then dies also my remote does not lock or unlock doors

have you tried replacing the batterys in the remote? and is your car equipped with an immobilizer? you kind find out by putting your key i nthe ignition put it to power on and look for a key like icon on the dash cluster.
