Loud CTUNG! noise when I turn steering wheel

Asked by GuruV2BD6 Sep 10, 2018 at 12:08 PM about the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hit a pothole and when I came out the front end makes a loud ctung sound
when I turn the steering wheel both right and left. Any idea what it could be
that is now broken? Everything works but the sound is alarming.

Be careful driving and have it checked out as you may lose all steering suddenly. I would guess there is an broken upper and/or lower ball joint meaning your wheel could "flop" out or in under the car. Some cautious person might even have it towed at this point.
