What oil should be used in an 02 turbo Passat?

Asked by Tawna Jun 29, 2014 at 11:07 PM about the 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I ran my oil dry then made an emergency stop at a WallMart for oil.
Of course the  car is an auction car and has no manual and the isle
oil guide was digital...and not working. Was shocked that it was dry and the oil light
didn't come on sooner. That might be another issue. I went ahead and grabbed Castrol
GX semi synthetic/high mileage 5W- 30.  Wasn't sure how much to put in so I was
checking the dip stick after every pour. I ended up putting too much in and was
wondering if that would cause the hard engine sputtering/loss of power/rough idle. I
sure i made more than one mistake and could use any help at all.
