Hi vguinter, The fuel filter is located underneath the vehicle on the driver side, almost under the driver seat. You can't miss it, just follow the gas lines coming from the fuel tank. Hope this helps!

I also know this is an old post - but the correct answer is, IN THE FUEL TANK. GM has decided to make the fuel filter non serviceable and placed it in the fuel tank with the 'sending unit/fuel pump'. this was done in 2004 or 2005.

robert, I agree. I own a 04 yukon and there is definitely no external fuel filter under that truck. right now now i have a problem with fouled injectors - they appear to be contaminated with rust - causing misfire. there are a couple service bullitins on this but i haven't found any details on a fix or the source of the contamination.

I still go by my old dealer every other week, and usually there is a truck with the fuel rail on the bench and apart full of rust. As stated by GM #PI001875A - "This Product Information Update is to advise you of an error in the 2004 Owners Manual Section 6, Normal Maintenance Replacement Parts. This section list the fuel filter as a replaceable part; this is incorrect as gas powered V-8 engines have a lifetime filter built into the fuel sender inside the tank and thus is not serviceable separately." The latest Bulliten addressing the rust issue is #PIP3280D from Sept 2008 and states that the only fix is to replace the necessary parts and to add fuel system treatment (Using GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS )at every oil change. other wise, you could add in a replaceable filter somewhere that should not affect the performance.

Thanks for the info, robert. how nice for gm that i have to buy their fuel treatment 4 times a year as long as i own the truck. not a very good fix. what will that stuff do, anyway? most of the fuel system components are plastic. there is only a piece of metal gas line from where the 'mystery' fuel filter is supposed to be and the rail. then the piece that connects the two rails. i guess the sending unit assembly must be metal. other than that, the rest of the system is plastic. its too bad. i love that truck. anyway, thanks again.

the treatment is basically used to nullify the effects of water on metal components and provide additional lubrication for moving parts (pump, injectors). The sending unit is mostly plastic bt the pump itself is metal as well as the rods and springs that connect the pump/filter assembly to the top part that sits flush with the top of the tank and where the hose connections are (it's spring loaded to hold the pump against the bottom of the tank). Sorry there isn't any more good info about a good fix for it.

I have a 2006 Chevy Suburban and I pulled the gas tank to replace the rusted break line. There is NO EXTERNAL fuel filter to replace. Auto parts sold me one but there is not one to replace. It is in the fuel tank. My fuel pump was so rusted it had holes in the line coming out of the fuel pump. So I replaced it and was going to replace the fuel filter also but it is not there.....

Hi I have a 2005 yukon slt and looked for it o or and under. Even a mechanic looked there is none . Researched it and turns out there wasn't one for this year and possibly others.most likely just a strainer in the fuel tank on the fuel pump.
