2006 GMC Sierra Speakers and Dashboard lights not working

I recently started driving my dads old GMC Sierra
and the speakers all go from working perfectly to
being completely out or working at a very low
volume. The dashboard lights are also out and only
work if you hit the dashboard at just the right spot.
Our family mechanic says it could be the wiring
harness but I've had other people tell me it's
probably just frayed wires and could be an easy fix.
If anyone has any suggestions about how to fix this
before I pay my mechanic to look and purchase a
new wiring harness that would be greatly
appreciated!

Also if you hit the speakers sometimes they pop back on, which is why I don't think it's the wiring harness.
