Over heating in 10 minutes

Asked by Toohey Jan 17, 2014 at 01:39 PM about the 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have installed new water pump, had radiator repaired and flushed, installed new
stat, and just repulled water pump to inspect inpeller. Have boiled both thermastats to
make sure they are working, both good. All this in the last two months, and every time I
put it all back the car will over heat, right now or in a few weeks.
Can this car get vapor locked, what I mean can air pressure keep the pump from geting
water to it?
Is there any elec. valve that opens? I have been driving, tem overheats,I turned the car off
and restated in one min. And watched the temp go back to normal
Does the water pump have a built in clutch,or are they direct drive always?
I do not know what to do next.
My e mail is e.toohey at hotmail.com
Thank you for your time

Yes they get air locked.Go to advance, autozone or harbor freight and they sell an air bleed system that goes on the radiator or overflow jug. This is the only way to get all the air out. Make sure your fans are working as they should.

Does this have a clutch fan or electric fans?

It can be bled via the plug on the coolant cross-over tube, just in front of the alternator. Follow this link for some more info.: http://www.modularfords.com/threads/80450-Major-problems-bleeding-cooling-system
