Ford Mustang SVT -- fluid maintenance

Asked by 98pghcobra Jul 29, 2014 at 03:28 PM about the 1998 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am the original owner of a 1998 Mustang Cobra convertible with less than 30k miles.  The car is stored in the winter and has averaged well under 1000 road miles per year in the recent past.   How often do I need to change the oil ( yearly or based on road mileage), and should I listen to the mechanic who inspects my car who says that I should replace all fluids based on the age of the car alone ? I am not an expert but this seems excessive.

IMO change the oil every year, it would take 5 years at that pace to get to the 5,000 mile interval, and that's no good. Even if it has synthetic---either way. And your mechanic is not a crook...if the fluids have never been changed, in 16 years, then yes, absolutely. Take care of her my friend, if you value her,. and she will take care of you And be sure to store it with a full tank with some StaBil.

very easy, lets say you park your mustang on January and don't drive it until July, you need to change the oil, good oil last for 5 months or 5,000 miles, after this the detergents in the oil break down and the oil eventually becomes useless. plus oil change is cheap won't take any chances with your engine.
