What would cause engine to shut off once I put it in gear?

When truck is in park and idling, it runs fine.  As soon as it is put in gear (reverse or drive) idle goes down and engine shuts off.

Did you just do some work to this vehicle? Can you press the accelerator and it not die?

Yes, changed spark plugs. Yes, it will not die if press accelerator. Thank you

I would check and make sure your wires are back in the correct firing order. I would also go ahead and pull the spark plugs back and out and check the gap. I would bet the wires got mixed up.
