94 dodge ram 5.2L clanking noise when revving and especially after warmed up. Rod bearings?

Just bought this truck as a project to either try and fix the engine or put a bigger one in it if  
it would be too expensive to fix.  there were some metal strips kinda circular shaped and
some shavings in the oil pan.  the oil pressure gauge jumps up and down.  the rough
clanking sound get louder the longer i run the engine.  The previous owner thought it might
be spun rod bearings? any thoughts?

You definitely have some issues. An engine tear down is inevitable.

check for sludge in your oil and oil pan...just had same problem, major sludge even though change oil every 3K miles...also metal shavings. 2008 Dodge Ram 1500
